A One-Evening Exhibition on November 1, 2008 Considers Art Collecting a Form of Activism.

Any citizen's idea of the next President leading the nation is likely to be as ambivalent as art choices he or she collects. As voters across the country contemplate the coming week’s elections and the larger future, ELECTORAL DECISIONS, presented by 100 Stewards, exhibits odds and ends (mostly odds) from the collection of one independent curator. The conglomeration comprises 20+ works of art made within the recent years of George W's terms, with a few objects from the JFK & Nixon eras thrown in for good measure.

Islam, abortion, economics, terrorism, activism, or the environment-- real or imagined, these concerns cannot help but crop up in works of art, sometimes unexpectedly. Featured artists hail from Orange County, Texas, New York City, South Carolina, and Beijing-- Jonathan Atchley, Jonathan Cowan, Rex Hausmann, Allison Luce, Alfredo Martinez, and Jacob Williams. Rounding out their work are pictures also by Alexander Calder, Donald Celender, including a perplexing drawing by an anonymous child artist.

This Day-after-Halloween event takes place Saturday, November 1, 6:00-10:00pm. Costumes, particularly of political figures, are welcome though not mandatory. All works of art exhibited are for sale. One of the artists, Jonathan Atchley, will present his folky, freaky music, with special assistance from the exhibition’s curator. See and hear more at www.theoddlamb.com

About the location and the curator:

The art show takes place in a warehouse next to a metalworking shop within walking distance of California State University, Los Angeles. This art event applauds other pioneering galleries (including another warehouse art space down the street) cultivating the arts in and east of downtown LA.

Samuel Kho co-founded 100 Stewards in 2006, with the hope of bringing collectors and artists together. Kho has worked for a variety of galleries in Asia, New York and Los Angeles. After completion of his graduate degree, one of his activities will be curating shows in 2009 for an alternative space in Greenwich Village, New York City.
